interview with director Anne-Marie Baesner

L’Automobile Magazine: Anne-Marie, the Lyon Motor Show 2022* will take place this year in April, not at the end of September as usual. Why ?

Anne-Marie Baezner: I like to say that The Lyon car dealership is dedicated to working together.. Thus, we constantly exchange a lot with exhibitors. Therefore, in April 2021, we jointly agreed that the 2022 edition would run from April 7 to April 11. This decision was taken unanimously.between all parties involved. We bet on opening this spring because we thought at the time that it would be a period of renewal, in other words, the health crisis would be left behind. It was a game and we were lucky. Proof, the Brussels Motor Show, which was supposed to take place in January 2022, had to give up. We must remain modest, we have taken advantage of the fact that the health situation in France has improved significantly in recent weeks. However, it should be noted that in 2023 the Lyon Motor Show will return to its biennial frequency in September, alternating with the Paris Motor Show.

Constantly dialogue

With the 2022 Geneva Motor Show canceled due to Covid, the Lyon Motor Show is getting more important, isn’t it?

I believe that you are right the planets aligned and the conjunction worked in our favor. I am also very happy to remind you that Lyon Motor Show 2022, grouped on 53,000 m2, will be the first of its kind in Europe this year!

And what exactly are the new features expected in this 2022 release?

I could answer you that you don’t change the winning formula (laughs). More seriously, during the last two editions we have already done a good job with the represented brands and we are very proud of it. In all modesty, we can say that our exhibition is now recognized by both professionals and visitors. Or rather, and I prefer this term, our “event salon”.

I.e?

This means that since 2015 and the resumption of the Lyon Motor Show, in addition to the “sale” part, when dealers in the region show their new models to offer them to the public, we offer the visitor the opportunity to experience different experiences. So, in answer to your previous question, this year the show will change with two major changes. The first will be visible from the entrance, with focus on 100% electric vehicles, whereas until now we only had hybrids. The second will be dedicated to the space dedicated to used cars, models of which are also available for sale, on an area of 10,000 m2, all segments combined. Our dealers have also expressed their desire to be present this year with used cars.

And always with the will not to create a barrier to the visitor?

Yes, because besides our sales goal, whether new or used vehicles, our goal is to to maintain this closeness with the public, this necessary connection with those who will come to us again this year. We are often told that our cars are affordable, and this is true. So at the Lyon Motor Show, people can easily get to the booth, approach the vehicles, discuss with the brand managers… I don’t think this applies to all international exhibitions, where there is undoubtedly a greater distance. between the public and cars. Same the dates chosen for our 2022 edition have been designed to suit everyoneincluding “Monday”, so that on April 11, merchants, in particular, could come to us.

Buy, have fun, open and trade

The public, which will also be able to test certain machines, right?

That’s right, and that’s even the strength of the Lyon car dealership to be able to try out new cars of all brands immediately. Specifically, the visitor will be able to test the coveted model on the day of arrival, leaving driving a car inside Eurexpo, and even outside, accompanied, under the guidance of a tester. To summarize, I would say that our 2022 event will be the fourth edition (after the 2015, 2017 and 2019 events, ed. note) of a formula that has already proven itself, but does not intend to stop there.

Lyon Motor Show is also a passion for the car, its history.

Certainly. And this time we will again have animation and exhibitions of great value to the audience. From the entertainment part, I would mention the one dedicated to virtual reality., which will appeal to young and old alike, as well as an introduction to eco-driving, Pit Stop Challenge or Crazy Cart, just to name a few. As for the show, thanks to dedicated clubs and distributors, there will be a Ford Mustang and a Porsche 911, as well as the R5, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. without forgetting the retrospective of the competitive brand Alpine ! The blending of universes, the visibility of our regional players, the opportunity to buy a car in excellent conditions or just to have fun, to discover and exchange, this is indeed, I repeat, the model of the Lyon Motor Show to which we are so attached.

Finally, the Berliet regional stage will not be forgotten.

Of course not ! The Marius-Berliet Foundation, led by eminent people, will obviously be back at this 2022 event to celebrate its 40th anniversary with great pomp. Let’s be a little chauvinist the city of Lyon can rightfully be considered the cradle of the automotive industrye., and it has been so since the 19th century. In conclusion, I would like to say that our goal this year is for the visitor experience to be successful again and for our exhibitors to benefit from it. This necessary chemistry between everyone, we strongly want to keep it, and not just the attendance numbers.
