The World of Yesterday by Diastema

What is it about ? Elisabeth de Raincy, President of the Republic, has decided to retire from politics. Three days before the first round of the presidential election, she learns from her general secretary that a scandal emanating from abroad will affect her designated successor and bring victory to the far-right candidate.

Did you know ? Like The French World, Diastema’s second feature film, released in 2015, Le Monde d’hier evokes the rise of the far right in France. But this time the director decided to take the side of politics and institutions. It develops: “Unfortunately, since 2015, the problem has only worsened, not only in France, but throughout the world. Obviously, this is a topic that worries me.”

Azuro by Mathieu Rose

Valerie Donzelli, Tomas Shimeka, Yannick Hora…

What is it about ? One summer. Torpor. Crushing heat. Disturbed climate. A village sandwiched between the sea and the mountains. No network. No laptop. Friends who know each other too well. Nothing to do. Or so few. Holidays. And then comes the boat. And from this boat a man descends. Mysterious man…

Did you know ? Mathieu Rose chose Nuno Lopez to play the mysterious seducer after seeing him in Easy Girl (2019), in which he plays a character that is a priori very close to the one he plays in Azuro (and where else was the beach of the question , sun and desire!). However, the director clarifies: “In the film by Rebecca Zlotowski, he is ugly and even frankly “nasty”. In Azuro, on the contrary, he is only seductive.

Star Claudine Bory, Patrice Chaniard

What is it about ? The star is a cow. The star is the queen. She was even the queen of queens in the pasture. But Star is old. To spare her the humiliation of being overthrown by her young rivals, our neighbors leave her to us for the whole summer. This is where we discovered that each cow is unique.

Did you know ? After three very urban documentaries (We the People, Rules of the Game, The Beginners), Claudine Bory and Patrice Shagnar changed register radically to Vedette. The first explains:

“Fights served us primarily as a pretext. This is the hook of our film, its starting point. We were interested in these cows because they are fighters, and also because Claudine and I have been thinking about the relationship between man and animal for several years.

What can I hope for by Raphael Girardot, Vincent Gollier

What is it about ? In a humanitarian camp opened in Paris, refugees are on their way. In this “first visit” center they rest from the street they found themselves on when they arrived in France. Just a few days of humanity that we spend with them.

Did you know ? The idea to make this documentary came to Rafael Girardot and Vincent Gollier in the summer of 2016. Then more than 4,000 migrants found themselves on the streets of Paris without a livelihood. The state in charge of receiving these refugees does not hesitate and allows unacceptably dangerous areas to be settled, which ultimately requires humanitarian intervention.
