More is missing. Amazon launches True Wireless headphones – Echo Buds. Together with them, the web giant also continues to introduce its personal assistant Alexa into our daily lives. Thus, Echo Buds allow you to call it at any time, which makes them unique. Can we trust Amazon and not Sony, JBL, Jabra, Bose or other big mobile audio brands to set our releases to music? 20 minutes the tested headphones are sold for 119 euros.
The Alexa Ecosystem Gets Stronger
In fact, the Echo Buds are nothing new. The first generation of these True Wireless in-ear headphones was released in the US in 2021. So here we are facing “V2”. Available in black or white, Amazon’s headphones don’t necessarily shine with their original design. Supplied in a classic storage/charging case, they make a statement with a certain luxury and grand classic roundness. Pairing them in Bluetooth 5.0 means going through the Alexa app and adding them as a first or new product to your Amazon devices “Echo” system.
Touch and voice commands
With the app, you can test out the different tips that come with the headphones (four sizes are offered), remap the touch controls, take advantage of a fairly minimalist equalizer (bass, mids, treble), or turn on the noise. decrease or switch to surround mode. These last two functions can also be activated by long pressing on the touch surface of the headphones. Alternative (this is an opportunity to try it!): Ask Alexa to take care of it. And it works very well! “Alexa, turn on the noise canceling!” »
Anyone accustomed to cohabiting with an Amazon assistant will find a real optimization of their favorite roommate’s functions through the Echo Buds. With it, playing music, creating reminders, accessing the calendar (Android or iOS), managing connected objects, making calls to other people equipped with an Echo device become child’s play. Not forgetting the eternal questions that we can ask her… and to which she does not always have an answer. Like: “Alexa, who will be the next President of the Republic?” The pronunciation of “Alexa…” in the middle of the street seemed a little out of place to us at first, and then finally became almost natural, with spontaneous interactions.
Minimum services for noise reduction
For its part, the listening experience offered by the Echo Buds is quite unique. Amazon headphones can be reproached for the predominance of high and medium frequencies. However, their enhanced presence does not overshadow the rather solid bass. In general, the sound is therefore clear, as if airy, but structured and well structured. However, lovers of ringing and stumbling bass will go their own way.
On the other hand, the quality of noise reduction here remains very relative. Thus, the Echo Buds simply drown out some of the surrounding sounds. A bare minimum of services, in a sense… Naturally high, the noise of our fingers tapping on our computer keyboard has not even diminished… For its part, the Ambient Sound mode, which allows us to stay aware of the sounds that surround us while listening to music (practice in the middle streets!) very effectively. However, be careful: in windy weather, its consequences are terrible. The noise of the wind intensifies, and any attempt to listen becomes a disaster.
Sport and health in harmony
Note that Amazon offers a “Workout” feature with their Echo Buds. If you take care to enter your age and weight in the Alexa app settings, the earbuds take care of counting steps, calories, average pace, distance covered… with rather discouraging reliability compared to our Apple Watch activated in parallel: observed results were similar. Being waterproof (IPX4 standard), the Echo Buds seem to be quite suitable for sports use, but with extremely limited battery life: 5 hours with noise cancellation on, 6 hours without it.
Selling for 119 euros (with wired charger) and 139 euros (with wired and inductive chargers), the Amazon Echo Buds offer honest service, but with some necessary improvements. Better tonal balance, but above all noise cancellation that needs to be reworked, remain controversial points. Alex’s assistant finds here the real meaning of existence, a new opportunity for her parents to become even closer to us.
