Capture One 22 is getting an update to take advantage of the performance of the Apple M1.

Capture One 22 editing and cataloging software is getting a major update that focuses on bug fixes and improvements. Among other things, performance has been improved with Apple M1 processors.

Capture One 22 has just received the 15.2.0 update which brings several fixes and improvements to its tools. Users of Apple products will especially appreciate the optimization, which is mainly designed for computers equipped with M1 processors.

Apple M1 Optimization

While Apple recently introduced Mac Studio, Capture One improves the performance of its software on Apple computers equipped with ARM chips:

  • Preview generation is up to 100% faster.
  • Brightness rendering up to 300% faster. Capture One specifies that the gain is in effect both on initial rendering and when adjusted after the fact.
  • The Feather & Refine Mask tool increases the speed up to 1000%.
  • Loading raw Fujifilm files from X-Trans sensors is up to 100% faster. Preview generation and image scaling benefit from these improvements.

Keystone tool: automatic mode and fine tuning

The perspective settings panel has been redesigned. It now has two tabs for another setup method. The first tab allows you to select the type of correction and set its value; ideal for quick corrections. The second tab allows for more fine-tuning, but perhaps a little more difficult to get the desired result.

Capture One also introduces a new auto mode that analyzes images and directly applies corrections. By default, adjustment is on the vertical axis, but this behavior can be changed.

Finally, a new settings tab allows you to tweak the fixes a bit. This allows you to slightly deceive the landing. This somewhat specific point may be necessary in certain cases where perfectly aligned horizontal or vertical lines create a rendering that lacks naturalness.

Several small improvements

In addition to important changes, minor adjustments were made:

  • Live Capture One sessions can be configured for up to 14 days.
  • Auto rotate has been improved to be more accurate when lines such as the horizon are clearly visible.
  • The crop ratio is automatically used by the tool for convenience.
  • The most important functions are no longer hidden behind a drop-down menu that is called by a long click. From now on, the chevron or right click makes it easier to call the drop-down menu.
  • Ability to customize the default display of images, such as classifying them by date.

New camera and 7 more lens configurations

Just like Adobe Lightroom or DxO Photolab, the software must be updated to be able to read proprietary raw files or receive fixes tailored to its purposes. Capture One expands the list of compatible devices:

  • First Stage iXM-GS120
  • Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 20mm F1.4 PRO
  • Sony FE 70–200mm F2.8 GM OSS II + 2X teleconverter
